This is a diary of our "L" litter born on Friday 19th October 2007 the father of the puppies is our own dog Bailey (L. Bayley Irish Cream) and the mum is Stella (L. I Luv U)
THE BIRTHING STORY
All ready for the new arrivals plenty of towels at hand but no puppies in the box yet......
So it's Friday the 19th and we have spent all week in with Stella and despite showing some signs that she was about to whelp nothing such as a little digging in the garden and nesting in her whelping box she didn't look like she was in a particular hurry to have these puppies. She was now two days overdue. My Mum was on the phone to a friend and she suggested a short car journey can sometimes do the trick. So we popped Stella into the back of the car and drove about the village. She seemed happy about this as if she thought she was going to be going a walk. But then 5 minutes later she seemed a little restless so we thought we'd turn back and head home then next time I looked I could see a puppy! I jumped out the front seat into the back with her and helped her deliver puppy number one at 12 noon!

Back in the house and all settled with puppy number one who is keeping warm under the towel
Ok so now things have started happening and fairly quickly the whelping box is getting a little fuller. We've got 6 puppies now and the last one born was a wee girl surely that's her just starting on having some girls now after those boys?

Got 7 now! While our girls are having the puppies we like to let her feed the puppies that have been born but we keep them covered in a towel to keep them warm and dry. Whelping puppies can be very messy work!!!!

6.30pm now and all have safely arrived. They were all a respectable weight with the boys between 1lb and 1lb 4 ozs and the solitary wee girl is 13 ozs. We are happy with this as Stella has followed the ABDF (Anything But Dog Food) Diet this time and indeed for the last two weeks of her pregnancy would only eat cold sliced meat and pork pies!

Nevermind the unusual pregnancy diet has done the trick as we have 10 healthy babies in the box and happy and contented Mummy.
